Ethicon Prolene Soft Macroporous Light Weight Mesh is a non-absorbable polypropylene surgical mesh designed and manufactured by Ethicon (a Johnson & Johnson MedTech brand) for the reinforcement of abdominal wall defects such as ventral and inguinal hernias. Prolene Soft Mesh is made of reduced-diameter, soft polypropylene filaments knitted into a flexible, macroporous structure, providing excellent conformability and tissue ingrowth while maintaining durable mechanical support. It is approximately 50 % more flexible than standard Prolene mesh, facilitating easier placement and potentially improving patient comfort post-surgery. The mesh can be trimmed by the surgeon to the desired shape and size without unraveling, and is intended to integrate with surrounding fascia to support long-term repair. Prolene Soft Mesh is supplied sterile and is suitable for open surgical procedures, with fixation accomplished using sutures or fixation devices as appropriate for the procedure.
