When an Extended Memory Option Board is installed on a meter, the meter automatically checks for the presence of the board at power-up, midnight, and after each communication session. If the meter receives a response from the memory board, then the meter starts using the extended memory board for load profile changes. If the meter does not receive a response from the extended memory board, the meter assumes the board is not installed and uses meter memory for load profile storage.
